What pest control looks like in Palmyra

Palmyra is our home base. As a locally owned business operating right here in town, we know the pest pressures Palmyra homeowners face — from carpenter ants in older farmhouses to mice finding their way into garages and attics during the cold months. We're proud to be your neighbor and your first call for pest control.

The shop is at 464 Raymond Road. Neighbor jobs in Palmyra are the shortest run we have. That does not mean a lesser inspection — it means we can often be there the same morning.

Older farmhouses and places toward Sebasticook Lake get carpenter ants and mice. Newer houses off Route 2 still need door sweeps before November.

Palmyra is where the company is based, so Palmyra homes are the closest run on the list.

Newport, Pittsfield, Hartland, and St. Albans are the next towns over. Use those pages if that is your driveway.

Farmland, a bog preserve and houses from the early 1800s

Palmyra was incorporated in 1807 and had 1,924 residents at the 2020 census. The town describes most of its land as agricultural or residential, and says many of its older homes were built by the earliest settlers in the early 1800s. The Town Hall on Main Street dates to 1870. Newer homes now stand among the old ones. Census Bureau estimates put the median build year at 1994, and about 9 percent of homes predate 1940.

Houses from the early 1800s were built with post-and-beam frames, fieldstone cellars and ells joining the house to the barn. Those joints and uneven sills are open doors for mice once fall frosts start. The same timbers, if they stay damp, draw carpenter ants. Farm fields and hay storage keep rodent numbers high around houses at the edge of open land.

The Madawaska Bog Wildlife Preserve and the town's wetlands support mosquitoes through the warm months. The surrounding woods and brushy field edges support ticks. Somerset County's Lyme disease rate stood at about 345 cases per 100,000 residents in 2024, according to Maine CDC. That is well above the statewide rate of 230, and Somerset is one of eight counties above the state average for two years running. Checking for ticks after yard work or a walk along the fields is worth doing here.
